Goals & Resolutions (2014)
Goals and Resolutions
Welcome to 2014....
Setting Goals may terrify some; and others,
like myself, become very excited with the thoughts of all the new possibilities
of a New Year and new goals.
If this thought does not excite you, I
completely understand.
Many of us are stressed with simply
keeping up with daily living and tired of being asked about resolutions or told
why we should have them.
Have you already decided on your New Year resolutions or have you simply given up on the concept?
I am not about to tell you to make
resolutions.
My blog
is not concerning making a resolution, as this is not a term I prefer to use. I
looked up a definition of “resolution” and found “a fixed intention, a decision
to do something” ( An English usage dictionary, pg 729); I personally find this
definition a bit vague.
I prefer the term “goal setting”.
You can have various goals and they do
not have to be only on New years as we have short, intermediate and long term
goals.
Simply having one huge goal or a few
major life changing goals that you pressured yourself into making, will only
set you up for disappointment.
Setting goals allows you the freedom
to take control of your future pro-actively.
Setting goals can be tedious, as you
need to ask yourself many questions, understand your own strengths and
weaknesses and be passionate about all the goals you want.
Goals should expand your horizons,
stretch you past your limits and allow you to gain knowledge that grows you as
person. Which is why your goals must resonate with your values and beliefs.
I love setting goals for myself and
assisting others in setting and achieving their goals.
I love being a cheerleader for the
individuals I work with, as I am passionate and enthusiastic about living life
fully and helping others do the same.
In this blog and the ones to follow I
will explain my personal process of goals setting, reaching your goals and not
giving up on yourself to succeed.
Step 1:
The first step for me is simply making
a list of all the things you want for yourself.
Remember these are your personal
goals. Sometimes we get caught up in what others tell us we want, or who your
parents or partners tell you who you are, but this is your life and your
choices matter.
You are an individual and have your own abilities and personality traits, which make you unique and wonderful.
Make a list of about 15 – 30 things
you want.
·
Do not
limit yourself by worrying about the how or why or when, simply relax and start
writing.
Step 2:
Now
re-read your list.
·
Look at how many goals you had on your list
which are the same as last year. Ask yourself why they were not reached?
·
What stopped you? What speed bumps or road
blocks were in your way?
Did you ask for support? Do your family,
friends and partners support and encourage you?
There are so many reasons why we may have not
reached a goal or forgotten about the dreams you had when you were five or ten
years old. Knowing these reasons are important as you will read in the next blog.
Step 3:
What
are the reasons you chose these goals?
You
have to have a definite, strong and excited why behind each goals.
Summary:
Write
the goals or dreams down. (you can write, type, make a video or blog depending on what feel
comfortable to you)
Read,
questions the goals and reflect on your
past goals and your current goals
Have a
reason next to each goal. You have to have a strong “why” for each goal.
Happy writing and goal setting.
Until
next time…
We
shall continue on these goal setting methods. Please feel free to add your goals
to my blog or Facebook page.
I look
forward to reading them and if you need any assistance please feel free to email
or Facebook me
Xoxo
Always
