A female Reading “Male Magazines” - Why i read a “male fitness” magazine
A female Reading “Male Magazines”
I was asked why was I reading a “male fitness” magazine?
I was at the gym, on the stepper reading the Muscle Evolution Magazine.
While I read I can feel eyes, staring with wondering minds...
In the weight section people glance and sometimes read my
training book. As humans, we are all curious. My training book looks interesting
and inspiring for me personally, and not for anyone else. (I will discuss
vision boards and goal books in my next blog with my artwork.)
Dexter Jackson is on the current cover looking larger than
life. He may also look scary to those who do not appreciate the hard work that is put into their bodies.

In a video I watched, by the Muscle Factory the narrator
says: “Bodybuilding is more than just an athletic skill, it is really a
celebration of the human body”. How beautiful is that?
I was hooked,
inspired and wanted to know more about this sport; this is part of my
inspiration on my journey to become a serious motivational fitness athlete.
I was offered a more “female” magazine by another female, as
she gave me a look that said “what is wrong with you” and “why are you reading
a male muscle magazine”.
I declined with a smile and a short explanation!
So let me explain my reasoning in more detail.
Be prepared to become addicted to these fitness magazines…
Firstly; I am a total magazine addict and one of my dream
jobs is being a magazine editor. I love and read various magazines.
I want to take this opportunity to complement everyone
(editors, photographers, designers, etc.) working on our local amazing
informative fitness magazines (fitness
and Muscle evolution). They are the leading local fitness magazines in our
country, and if you have read them, you will understand why.
1.
I am currently studying Personal Training, and I
believe that you need to be an expert in your field of study. This requires a
lot of research and gathering of information from various sources. These
magazine’s keep my interest in this field of study up to date and interesting.
I want to ensure that I can work with men
and woman easily and have the respect from my peers, and clients knowing
without a doubt; that I am knowledgeable and they can trust my advice.
I already have difficulty with people
thinking I am intelligent, because I am short I come across as “cute and
childlike”.
These brilliant magazines offer different
information for their target audience. You can choose which you prefer to read,
which is probably why they have also added a new fitness magazine to their list, Fitness His.

People are generally afraid or shy to ask
for information, and don’t know who to ask or where to look for the right
information. Magazines are a good start, as they are easily accessible and have
a variety of information. (That being said, you need to get further information
depending on what your goals are. Never take advice at face value from anyone
or from reading from 1 source. Magazines offer great advice, but the info is
general and if you want to lose weight or follow general training plans; but
are not fit, or experienced and do not have your doctor’s permission you can do
more harm than good if you do the incorrect exercises, have bad form or health
problems. )
The “fitness”
magazine;
Ladies wanting to be healthier, fitter and
who take fitness more seriously, reading the “fitness” magazine is fantastic start for any newbie. As a more
serious female fitness fanatic, the magazine offers great hints and tips to
keep your training and nutrition interesting. Those are only two or three
reasons, there are many more.

My dream and goal is to be on the cover of
“fitness magazine”. (They run this competition each year, last year was the first time i entered)
I would love to use that opportunity as a
platform to inspire more people with my transformation and my story. That will
be an amazing, dream come true!
I know most girls say that, but I am too
ambitious and caring to simply be “just a cover girl.” I attach tremendous meaning
to such an achievement, and the role model I can play in the lives of others.
I really admire the cover ladies whom I
have had the opportunity to meet. I have
been privileged to have a heart to heart over coffee, with two of them so far.
(Those interviews will be in my future blogs)
My favourite ladies on the cover (who have
all signed my fitness copies as
motivation); are definitely Angelique van der Linde and Anna Wood.
I also love the international fitness
models (Jennifer Nicole Lee and Dianna Dahlgren) on the covers, but seeing our
local ladies, makes my dream more possible.
I used to be one of “those girls” that thought every cover girl was enhanced by
Photoshop. Now I am on the other end, having photo shoots that do not need
Photoshop to show my figure or hide certain parts of my body, I can say that
with pride!
2.
Muscle Evolution (South Africa’s number 1
bodybuilding magazine) is a brilliant magazine, which is targeted more at the
men, and more serious fitness athletes. (My personal opinion)
I have a few female friends, who look at
the cover and their first comments are always along the lines of; “I don’t want
a man looking like that” or “why do you want to build muscles as a man”.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion,
but after the WBFF Show in July, I
am sure I will win them over as clients and avid fitness enthusiasts. (My main
goal is to spread my enthusiasm for a healthy lifestyle, whatever that may mean
to people individually)
-
This magazine features articles written by men
and women. I find them all very interesting. The section on “The Secrets to
Stage Presentation and Poise” by Tammy Jackson and Marlene Koekemoer was
inspiring for me as I prepare for my competition.
-
Each edition features female athletes. (Another
dream of mine, to be featured in this prestigious magazine.)
-
These articles seem very serious, if you see the
pictures of the guys who write the articles you know they are giving you serious
information. They are speaking from experience, and it shows in their articles.
I am a magazine addict, I have goals and they are huge
because we only live once. So I encourage all men and woman to read and start
planning your goals.
Read these fantastic magazines, whether you think it was
written for you or not; because I guarantee that you will find interesting
articles and soon be as addicted as I am.
More importantly information and knowledge is powerful!
Being able to have a conversation with your friends or
strangers, about various topics, makes you an intelligent individual. Knowing
more about your body, goals and lifestyle is great. However being able to
support and inspire your partner, co-workers, and friends with valuable
information gives you an advantage.
So why do I read a male magazine?
Why do I read
I think the better
question rather; whether you are male or female….
Is why are you Not reading “Muscle evolution”
magazine? (“South Africa’s number 1 bodybuilding magazine”)
