Where does weight loss start?

Where does weight loss start?

I put my horrible and nasty before pictures on my Facebook page (Maylene Kim’s Challenge 1:5:15). I have quite a few, I am positively sure if I tell you my weight and body fat percentage you would not believe me.

I’ve tried various challenges, various diets, read all the books and all those quick secrets to weight loss we often hear about. And if there is a diet or programme out there I didn’t try, my sister did. We were not born skinny, tall sexy model looking girls.

You probably have the same thoughts and questions we had; which I am sure you have had.

  • ·         I feel fat and I have to go on holiday, or a matric dance and I need to lose weight.
  • ·         I look fat and my clothes don’t fit, I want to buy those tight jeans so I must lose weight.
  • ·         Why must I look like “this” when the girls at school, on television or in the magazines look like “that”
  • ·         I have tried the …….. diet and it doesn’t work, I am giving up…. Etc etc….

Our thoughts probably do not change over time, there are still ladies at the age of 40 and above saying those same thoughts, unhappy with their weight and lifestyles.
We need to ask ourselves some very important questions. I am no expert, these are questions I have asked myself and had to answer honestly.

The starting point, my tip; it may start with wanting to lose weight for an occasion but that’s not enough to sustain your journey, and definitely not a good enough reason to change your lifestyle for the long term.
·         Why do you want to lose weight? Honestly?
·         What excuses do you use to lose weight?
o   If the answer is short term, your wedding, your matric dance or a holiday, ask yourself what about after that?
·         How confident are you with yourself? How comfortable are you in your own skin?
·         Is this really a goal for you, that you want for yourself?
o   It cannot be a goal someone tells you to have?

The truth is you need to ask yourself the hard questions, however you need a bigger reason that weigh loss to stick to your goals.

Ask yourself the questions again, and then sit down alone, and think about every reason why you want to change your life and lifestyle, and not just your weight.

I was unhappy, my hair was falling out, i was depressed, i never went out,  I cried when i looked at myself, i could only fit into 1 pair of jeans, then i got another pair of bigger jeans...
I decided to never buy clothes that could not fit me...

·         Write down at least 5-10 reasons why you are unhappy with where you are and why you want to change
·         Remember my challenge? What are your 5 reasons?

Please feel free to put your comments on my Facebook page or on twitter, send pictures and comments and lets share our goals, so we can motivate each other.
